Premiere Pro 2025 updates: what versions 25.2 to 25.6 added
Match a 2025 tutorial to its build: April AI tools, August waveform edits, September Film Impact effects and November sound search, with the compatibility checks that affect an update.

Adobe Premiere's 2025 headline tools arrived in different builds. Version 25.2 brought 4K Generative Extend, Media Intelligence and caption translation; 25.6 added Audio Search and Find Similar. If a tutorial says only “2025,” read your full build number before looking for its controls.
Read your full build number first
With the app open, check the installed version through Help > About on Windows. On macOS, select the app name beside the Apple icon in the menu bar, then About. Note the complete number, including the last digit: 25.6.0 has a project-compatibility exception explained below.
An older graphics tutorial needs a separate check: in version 25.0 and later, selected text and graphics use Properties. The panel change predates the April 25.2 features below.
Match the tutorial's feature to its 2025 release
| Release | Features to recognize in a tutorial |
|---|---|
| 25.2, April 2025 | Generative Extend in 4K, Media Intelligence, Translate Captions, revised color management and dynamic audio waveforms. |
| 25.3, June 2025 | Advanced Search filters and production support for NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. |
| 25.4, August 2025 | Live waveform editing, Multi Transitions and Canon Cinema RAW Light acceleration on Windows. |
| 25.5, September 2025 | More than 90 Film Impact effects, transitions and animations. |
| 25.6, November 2025 | Audio Search, Find Similar, Censor Transcript and the Frame.io V4 panel. |

25.2 and 25.3: search, captions and camera media
April's Search panel could combine visual matches, spoken dialogue and embedded metadata. Media Intelligence accepted descriptions of objects or locations in a shot. A camera angle could also guide the search. Adobe said its media analysis ran locally without an internet connection. This is the release to recognize when a lesson searches footage for a kind of shot or words in an interview.
Generative Extend in 4K and Translate Captions belong to that same April milestone. Before budgeting an extension, check Adobe’s current Generative Extend terms. When 25.2 shipped, Adobe offered it at no cost for a limited time and said it would then consume Firefly generative credits, with the price depending on the clip's format, frame rate and resolution. The 25.2 color-management update also added automatic SDR or HDR transforms for supported log and RAW camera footage; that is a separate change from searching or generating media.
June's 25.3 added advanced filtering in Search and listed NVIDIA Blackwell support. The April announcement had described Blackwell decode acceleration as beta, so an early demonstration does not establish its availability in the April production build.
Camera support also depends on the platform. Canon Cinema RAW Light acceleration arrived on Apple silicon in the April update; the Windows addition is listed under August's 25.4. Match both the build and the computer when following a playback demonstration.
25.4 and 25.5: waveform edits and effects arrived separately
Two waveform changes are easy to confuse. In 25.2, Dynamic Audio Waveforms reflected clip-volume adjustments. August's 25.4 added live waveform editing, including feedback during ripple and roll edits. If a lesson shows the waveform while an edit moves, 25.4 is the milestone to check.
Multi Transitions also belongs to 25.4: it lets you apply, edit and manage transitions across multiple audio and video clips. Adobe's September 9 announcement presents its audio and playback work as spread over the last few releases, and the waveforms it shows during a clip drag are the 25.4 feature above. Date those changes by the release notes, not by that post.
The new library is the September change. Adobe's September 9 announcement said 25.5's 90-plus Film Impact effects, transitions and animations would be available from September 10, 2025, included in the existing plan without a separate plugin subscription. For a lesson using that library, the earlier Multi Transitions feature alone is not enough.
25.6: sound search and collaboration under the Premiere name
The desktop editor is now called Adobe Premiere, formerly Premiere Pro, a name covering Adobe's desktop and mobile family. Adobe already used it in the November 2025 announcement for Premiere 25.6.
Audio Search finds sound effects by description across open projects, while Find Similar surfaces visually related clips. Finding a siren by its sound is the November addition; finding spoken words was already part of April's Search panel.
When you try it, describe the sound itself, such as sirens, a dog barking or a bird call, rather than a word someone says.

The same release added Censor Transcript to bleep, mute or replace selected words and phrases with a sound effect. After using it, listen through the affected passage to check that the intended words are covered and the surrounding dialogue still cuts cleanly.
For asset and review workflows, 25.6 brought the Frame.io V4 panel and integrated Adobe Stock browsing, previewing and licensing. Its release notes also list sending media from Firefly on the web to the desktop editor and native Nikon N-RAW import and editing.
Premiere Elements 2026 is a different product. Its separate Elements release announcement does not describe the 25.x desktop line above. The Premiere updates and versions hub groups the desktop release histories.
Check the compatibility cost before moving a project
I’d update after delivery and agree the target build with collaborators first, because the project still has to open on their machines. Check these boundaries before opening and saving the working project in another build:
- macOS Monterey 12: 25.4 drops support on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Adobe says Monterey users can continue with 25.3 or earlier.
- OpenCL acceleration: 25.6 dropped OpenCL 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2, requiring OpenCL 2.0 for that hardware-acceleration path.
- Project exchange: 25.6.0 has a documented project-format compatibility exception. Projects saved there can fail to open in other 25.x builds. Keep an untouched copy and agree the exact build with anyone who must open the project.

Adobe recommends waiting until between projects to update, checking third-party plugins and backing up custom settings for a major version move. A feature in the map can justify that move; it does not make the middle of a delivery deadline a good time for it.
After checking your operating system and your collaborators' builds, follow the steps to update safely. Open a working copy, play across the cut that uses the new feature, and check picture, sound and timing before continuing the edit.
